challenge

Background

The world today is confronting a climate emergency, the surge of authoritarian and anti-democratic movements, large-scale forced displacement, and devastating armed conflicts. These interconnected and layered crises jeopardize the status of women and threaten to roll back decades of progress. Particularly among all world countries, Afghanistan is currently confronting a series of interconnected challenges—economic, humanitarian, climate-related, and political—each of which is worsened by the intensifying women’s rights crisis.

Women are facing a severe rollback of their rights due to restrictions on their access to education and employment. Furthermore, humanitarian crises such as poverty, internal displacement, the influx of refugees into regional countries, climate change, and natural disasters are impacting the health and mental well-being of women, as well as leading to a spike in all forms of gender-based violence against women and girls.

Mission

Mission

Collaborating with communities to support and promote the human rights of women and girls, preserve and enhance the lives of the most marginalized, disadvantaged, and vulnerable families impacted by poverty and/or crises, and enable women and girls to realize their full potential.

Who We Are

Her Voice International is a UK-based organisation. HVI has field offices in Afghanistan and its headquarter is in London, United Kingdom. The organization was founded with the primary goals   to support women to achieve their full human rights, having their personal autonomy and dignity.  Saving  and enhancing lives, fostering resilience and developing long-term solutions to severe poverty, illiteracy, inequality,  injustices, discrimination and gender- based violence that impact women’s lives, and enabling them to realize  and unleash their full potential.

Additionally, Her Voice is recognized for its well-written internal policies and procedures, including those pertaining to finances, human resources, gender-based violence (GBV), safety guidance,  PESA (Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse), security, and procurement, which are transparent, accountable, and capable of implementing projects in accordance with the United Nations Millennium Goals while incorporating a community-participatory approach. Furthermore, Her Voice International has distinct management and governance structures, which include a Board of Directors (BoD)  Global Advisory Council (GAC),  and an Executive Team, respectively.

As the NGO’s governing body, the Board of Directors (BoDs) is responsible for developing the organization’s mission, purpose, direction, and goals; creating policies and procedures related to operations, fund-raising, and fiscal oversight; and monitoring the organization’s overall performance and strategic plan.

The GAC’s role is volunteer consultative, supporting HVI in achieving its vision and mission by offering expert insights, fostering partnerships, and promoting good governance. The  Executive Team acts to implement organization   mission, strategic plan and board approved policies; attains goals set by the board, supervises staff and directs the entire day to day business of the organization. All three governing structures (The BoDs, the GAC and the Executive Team) have well defined separate and distinctive roles and responsibilities.

Furthermore, humanitarian crises such as poverty, internal displacement, the influx of refugees into regional countries, climate change, and natural disasters are impacting the health and mental well-being of women, as well as leading to a spike in all forms of gender-based violence against women and girls.

According to Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) index 2023/2024 in terms of disparities and indicators of women’s inclusion, justice for women, physical and political violence against women, maternal mortality, women’s rights and their status,  Afghanistan out 177 performed the worst globally.  Similarly, in terms of humanitarian crises, based on United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, in 2025, almost half of the population- some 22.9 million people- will require humanitarian assistance to survive, due to limited capacity to meet both chronic and acute needs. Due to factors such as climate change, environmental challenges, natural disasters that have led to heightened displacement, humanitarian crises coupled with the imposed restrictive policies, have severely harmed women and children. Particularly gender-based violence (GBV) needs have risen – from 13.3 million people in 2024 to 14.2 million in 2025.

Hence, we profoundly felt the urgent need than ever to establish an organization through which our dedicated and committed team can work collectively to alleviate and mitigate the suffering of communities, particularly among vulnerable women and girls.
